Thank you to all those people who voted YES to the Expansion!!

The Expansion ballot (run by Electoral Services) was a success, with 84 percent voting YES for the Expansion of the Manukau Business Improvement District boundaries.

Business Manukau has been asked by neighbouring business and property owners to expand its boundaries, so that all businesses in the Manukau area can enjoy the services of the business association.

As this is a Business Improvement District (BID) the boundaries can only be enlarged by way of a formal ballot through Electoral Services.  This has been scheduled to take place between 10 - 31 October 2016.

Every business owner and every commercial property owner will have the opportunity to vote yes for expansion at this time.  By voting yes, prospective members will gain the following:

  • Security patrols every night
  • Two Crime Prevention Officers on call during business hours
  • An annual calendar of promotions and annual events to draw in more customers
  • A free listing on our online Business Directory
  • Regular business networking events

With the disappearance of Manukau City Council into the Auckland Super City, Manukau has lost its voice.  There is now limited Auckland Council focus on Manukau, and the Local Board must divide its attention between Otara, Papatoetoe, Hunters Corner, Wiri and Manukau.

Manukau is growing rapidly and is now the second largest city centre of Auckland.  We must ensure that Manukau Business District has a voice, and does not get drowned out by competing business districts.

Vote Yes for One Voice

If you are a business owner or commercial property owner in the proposed expansion area, you will receive voting papers in the post from about 10 October.  You may choose to vote electronically or by return post, but in either case your vote must arrive by 12 noon, Monday 31 October 2016, in order that it can be counted.
